BookingKit is a famous Online Booking Software like Captainbook. We spoke with former BookingKit customers to understand the differences with our platform. Here is what we learnt, to help you chose and switch.

How does CaptainBook’s product creation process differ from BookingKit’s?
A common frustration with BookingKit is that you’re forced to create separate “products” for each and every variation of your tour offering—be it different languages, optional add-ons, or special schedules. For instance, if your single tour is available in three languages and also includes an optional tower climb, you might end up having to list multiple products just to cover all combinations. This approach not only overwhelms your back-end with unnecessary entries but also complicates things for your customers, who have to sift through a long list of almost identical products.
In contrast, CaptainBook eliminates this issue by allowing you to consolidate all variations — languages, time slots, and optional extras — under one master product. Instead of juggling dozens of separate listings, you simply add each variation (schedule) to your existing tour. The result is a more streamlined system for both you and your customers: you’ll spend less time managing updates, and your guests won’t have to navigate a cluttered catalog just to find the right tour.

Why is CaptainBook’s API more reliable than BookingKit’s?
Many users have reported that BookingKit’s API lacks the necessary robustness and is prone to frequent errors, creating ongoing connectivity issues with popular Online Travel Agencies (OTAs). These glitches can disrupt real-time availability and pricing updates, leading to missed or failed bookings, lost revenue, and general frustration for tour and activity operators.
By contrast, CaptainBook has developed a fully functional API that integrates smoothly with a wide range of OTAs. With real-time synchronization, your inventory is always up to date across all distribution channels, significantly reducing the risk of double-bookings or other costly errors. This reliable technology not only simplifies booking management but also ensures that you can focus on delivering outstanding guest experiences, confident that your OTA connections are running smoothly in the background.

How do fees and commissions compare between CaptainBook and BookingKit?
BookingKit charges an API commission on every reservation, including those that end up being canceled or modified. In some cases, you could even be charged twice if a reservation is modified — once for the original booking and again for the revised one. Over time, these fees add up significantly for any tour or activity provider handling a steady volume of bookings, cutting into profits and complicating cash flow.
CaptainBook takes a very different approach with its transparent, monthly subscription model. There are no fees at all for direct online or offline bookings, so you don’t have to worry about additional per-reservation charges eating into your margins. For major OTAs like Viator and GetYourGuide, you also pay no booking fees beyond a monthly subscription per product. While other OTAs do incur a small booking fee, this fee is only charged if the booking is not canceled — regardless of who initiates the cancellation. This means you never pay for reservations that don’t generate revenue, ensuring a fair and predictable pricing structure.
"The CaptainBook Team are always super fast to respond and to resolve each little issue I have encountered during use. Their responsiveness and high level of customer service is something I noticed since day 1 and they’ve never failed me ever since."
